Seven Days of Shindigs #6 Ginuary, Schwingen Sixties & Soulful Sundays
Hello, and welcome to Brewhemia’s roaring 20s!
Our Hogmanay extravaganza made the ultimate start to the decade, and we’re pleased to say that we mean to go on in exactly the same way. That means tons of delicious dining, a whole host of exciting events and some seriously debauched entertainment to look forward to. But we wouldn’t want to give everything away at once, so for now, take a look at the treats we’ve lined up for the coming week…
13th – 19th JANUARY
GINUARY – THAT BOUTIQUE-Y GIN COMPANY
Ginuary has been an absolute ball so far, and we’ve very much enjoyed working with some of our very favourite gin brands to bring you two weeks of perfect serve menus. This week, we’re delighted to welcome the brilliant irreverence of That Boutique-y Gin Company. Known for their inventive flavours and hand drawn labels, each serve on their menu is wonderfully unique. In this blog, we’ll hone in on two particular serves that we think you’ll find extremely interesting!
Moonshot is wholly unique, in that it’s the only gin in the world that features botanicals sent into near-space (hence the name!). Featuring Juniper, Coriander, Chamomile Flowers, Fresh Lemon Peel, Cardamom, Dried Bitter Orange Peel, Cinnamon, Cubeb Pepper, Liquorice Root and Angelica and Moon Rock. Obviously. Once they returned to earth, they’re vacuum distilled at room temperature (at a pressure nearer 1/10th of that at sea level, in case you were wondering) for a fresh and vivacious taste.
A Tale of Two Towns is one of our very favourite gins. Why, you ask? Well because members of our very own team contributed to it’s creation! The company brought together bartenders from across Edinburgh, and asked them to create a gin inspired by the city. The result combines flavours of shortbread, raspberries, lime cordial, lovage and carrot. And with a name that speaks to the dual nature of our beautiful Edinburgh, across New and Old Town, sampling this beautiful bevvy is a truly unique experience.
Wednesday 15th January
The Scat Rats
After launching last autumn, Schwingen Sixties has quickly established itself as a Brewhemia staple – a midweek homage to the decade that elevated rock n’ roll to its perfect form. Join as our house acoustic duo, The Scat Rats, offer their own sweet takes on the very best of 1960s rock. Expect a set list packed with fantastic original songs, channelling an early 60s spirit, evocative of the fab four’s pre-Hamburg years. The band will also play classic songs from the era’s seminal musicians, from the Rolling Stones to Chuck Berry.
Sunday 19th January
Jedd Potts Duo – 10am
Choir : Tone Up – 1am
Gin Mill Genies – 6pm
Every Sunday we assemble a day packed full of sumptuous feasting and hearty, soulful entertainment. From brunching to Sunday roast, we’ve planned a roster of great music to take you through the day with the most laid back vibes around. We’re delighted to be joined for the Big Bluesy Brunch by the Jedd Potts duo, offering New Orleans grooves and Chicago shuffles from genre defining giants like Chuck Berry to Robert Johnson.
As the day continues, our weekly choir will take to the stage, bringing feel good energy as you dive into our truly scrumptious roasts. This week we’re pleased to welcome the Tone Up Choir, an A Capella group representing Edinburgh University, bringing a fresh-sounding take on some favorite hits. Last but certainly not least, Alison Affleck brings her Gin Mill Genies to the Beer Palace for an early evening set, paying homage to some key players and formative musical moments in the jazz scene. A better Sunday evening we can’t imagine!
ALPINE FEASTING – 50% DISCOUNT
A reminder that we’re offering a whopping 50% discount on main course dining to celebrate the release of our brand new Alpine Feasting menu. Big, hearty flavours inspired by the very best of European alpine cuisine. Offer available from Sun-Fri till the 31st January. Get it before it’s gone!
That about wraps up this week’s Seven Days of Shindigs. We hope we’ll be seeing you through the coming week, and in the meantime, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for updates and insider info on everything else we’ve got going on. We’ll see you soon!
