Morning folks! Usually about this time we'd be serving up brunch and pouring our first tank beers of the day... 🥺 But, while we're all locked down inside & taking shelter from Storm Darcy here's a little Monday morning Brewhemian history lesson to regale you instead...

Once upon a time, long before the beer tanks, cocktail shakers, sizzling steaks & bench-dancing shindigs, what is now the beautiful Beer Palace hosted a very different kind of setup. Back in 1860, our glorious Old Town building was the original HQ of the Scotsman Newspaper, & our Beer Palace was the heart of the action, filled with these incredible old printing presses.

What have you missed the most in 2020? ❤️

It's been a hell of a year and given us all some time to think and reflect. What we've realised the most, is that we've missed the time spent with friends, families and colleagues. There's something special about sitting together, dining together, drinking together and laughing together. These are the times that make the memories we cherish and brings us closer together.

We truly hope to see you again in 2021 when it is possible to socialise and party again, and we're sure there are many people you can’t wait to see too. CUSTOMER UPDATE - DECEMBER

Following the announcement yesterday that Edinburgh will remain in the Tier 3 restrictions we have reviewed the trading options and will be keeping Brewhemia closed for the remainder of 2020.

The image below is a throwback to the festive period last year, our fantastic peacock wearing his Christmas jewellery was one of the highlights, but we adore the Christmas decorations, the food, the smells, the parties and the entertainment.

With Tier 3 this year it just won't be the same, it won't be a Brewhemia experience for us or our guests. Restrictions to hours and travel make operating at break even impossible and the team will remain on furlough with their jobs and income protected until next year.

We'd love to be part of your Christmas celebrations and Hogmanay plans this year but it will not be a reality. Instead we'll be spending Christmas with our families and secretly nipping away every so often to plan, plot and prepare for an amazing 2021 - new menus, more beers, bigger entertainment. If there's one thing that 2020 has taught us it's that the time spent socially with friends and loved ones is priceless, we'll be making sure that when you can do this again you'll have the best ever time doing it with us in Brewhemia.

For now, we wish you and your families an amazing Christmas however you spend it and we are really excited to see you all in the New Year.

About this time on a Friday we'd normally be getting ready for a weekend of feasting, drinking & frivolity. It's safe to say we're missing all of you immensely & can't wait to get back at it. But, until the day arrives, here's a little trip down memory lane to tide you over...

Long before we brought the spirit of adventure & thousands of flowers to adorn Market St, our building was the HQ of the famous Scotsman Newspaper. This fantastic shot, created by the Know Where You Walk project fuses the past & present to beautiful effect, showing the passage of time on our iconic street - we'd highly encourage you to check out their Facebook page for more brilliant visuals of Edinburgh through the ages.

And much like Rabbie, the protagonist of our own Brewhemian origin story, we also reckon these dapper Edwardian gents would be extremely partial to a wee bratwurst, a tank beer or two & a dance on the benches...if only they knew the wonders the future would bring...😉🍻
